The black sheep fair

The fair takes place the first of August in Pitzinurri, a place in Ingurtosu and it is organized by the Association of Black Sheep Farmers (Associazione Allevatori di Pecora Nera di Arbus) together with Arbus Municipality.

The event celebrates the quality of this typical animal organizing information meetings and visits to the local sheepfolds, expositions, laboratories and tasting of products made from sheep milk.

The black sheep represents one of the main biodiversity that are in the territory of Arbus and in Medio Campidano in general. This specie, that was put aside from a long time and risked the extinction has recently got back its importance thanks to the interest of local sheep farmers which have improved the number of animals in the sheepfolds of Arbus. The colour of its coat is black: a wool which, after been felted with milk, olive oil, honey and lye, fits a house, make jewels more precious, make the wood and iron more beautiful, and it has become part of a beauty line of local products. Furthermore, it is a thermal - acoustic insulator and also an air purifier.
