The Gal shaft stope takes its name from Paul Gal, the President of Pennaroya Administrative Council, a French multinational that had got Pertusola Mines in 1920s.

The shaft is located in the ‘800 Harold stope, at 204m above sea level and it is 200ms deep. It started its activity in 1923 and then it was deepened until 130m above sea level.

Its activity had the purpose of stoping Brassey vein near the Lavery of Pireddu that started in 1926.

Nowadays, the stope has been restores thanks to Arbus municipality and it has been turned into a museum. The museum of “memories of the mine” has got 5 rooms and it goes over the history of the mine through panels and videos that tell about miners and their families who worked there.
