Amsicora shaft, located in a charming valley, is a part of Telle stope (Montevecchio mine) and it is an extraordinary example of mining archaeology refurbishment. It was built at the end of 1800 and it was firstly named Maestro Shaft (Pozzo Mestro): in 1938 it was refurbished and its name was changed. It is a very important place for Sardinian people because it is a piece of the mining history and most of all the symbol of miners’ fights for their rights at work. In 1991, the shaft was occupied by the miners (about 86) who wanted to preserve their work. They lived in the shaft for 27 days and the 18th May 1991 the shaft was finally closed after a half century of activity.
